Sitecore Author Toolbox 7.0 is out with Manifest v3 compliancy!

Tuesday 26th April 2022.

Since Google announced the Manifest v3 for all Chrome Extensions, and by definition the deprecation of manifest v2, all extension’s developers have been pretty busy updating extensions and pray to pass the brand new reviewing process by Google.

Today I’m happy to release version 7.0 of my Sitecore browser extension with full compliancy with Google’s Manifest v3.

What is Manifest v3

Manifest V3 represents one of the biggest shifts in the extensions platform since it launched a decade ago. Extensions using Manifest V3 will enjoy enhancements in security, privacy, and performance; they can also use more contemporary Open Web technologies adopted in Manifest V3, such as service workers and promises. Developers can update their extensions today to take advantage of these Manifest V3 features; this will become mandatory as Google phase out Manifest V2 in the future.

  1. Manifest v3 compliancy
  2. Unnecessary API permissions removed (DeclarativeContent, Notifications)
  3. Horizon: Bringing light support for Horizon (Experimental UI)

What’s next?

As the extension is now future-proof, you should expect more frequent releases in the coming weeks/months. I’m currently working on improving Experience Editor with a brand new preview mode 🙂 Stay tuned if you want to learn more about it!

If you haven’t installed it yet, go to Google Web Store and install it from here.
